About Air Line Pilots Association – Singapore
First started in the early 1960s as the Malayan Airline Pilots Association, the Air Line Pilots Association- Singapore (ALPA - Singapore) is the professional body representing the pilot profession in Singapore. It is a member of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Association.
Its primary mission is to enhance aviation safety and to promote the highest standard of professionalism and technical competence among its members. This is to ensure that the general public, who entrust their lives with us, are assured of the highest level of air safety when they travel in airliners operated by our members.
It also strives to develop, support and enhance the integrity, status and interests of the airline pilot profession in Singapore.
ALPA-Singapore seeks to speak with a common voice on behalf of the pilot profession when dealing with governments, aircraft manufacturers, airport authorities and other organizations affecting aviation safety and the interest of our members.
As a member association of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Association, ALPA-Singapore actively participates in various international committees pertaining to civil aviation such as Accident Analysis Committee, Airport and Ground Environment, Air Traffic Services Committee, Aircraft Design and Operations Committee, Dangerous Goods Committee, Human Performance as well as Aviation Security Committees just to name a few.
Being the representative body for Airline Pilots in Singapore, it is also actively involved in the various national civil aviation committees in Singapore. Some of these are the Singapore Ramp Operations Committee, Airport Facilities Committee, Ultra Long Range Committee and Singapore Changi Airport Fire/Safety Committee.
In fact many of our members progressed on to hold office at the international level. The IFALPA Asia Pacific Regional office is headed by our member Capt Suresh Menon while the IFALPA AGE committee is chaired by Capt Jimmy Ho both of whom are long time members of ALPA-Singapore.
ALPA-Singapore supports Singapore's drive to maintain Singapore as the leading air hub of the region and the world.
ALPA-S represents Pilots of:
Organisation of the Association.
The governing body of the association is the executive council, members of which are pilots elected by ballot of fellows and ordinary members. There are also representatives from the expatriate pilots in Singapore elected amongst the expatriate pilot population.
The executive council is therefore a large body reflecting a range of professional interests of our multinational pilot population but nevertheless acting on behalf of the profession in general. The council meets at least once a month and meetings are chaired by the president.
The association delegates the co-ordination of a number of its main functions to various committees such as the industrial, technical, members and public affairs committees and the PAG. The activities of these committees are reported to Council on a regular basis.
Secretariat Staff
The members who serve on the committees are also engaged full time in their role as pilots for their respective employers. Therefore it falls on ALPA-Singapore Secretariat to carry out the detailed work of collecting data, performing analysis, writing reports, liaising with various governmental organizations and regulatory authorities as well as drafting position papers, press releases and acting as the focal point for the coordination of activities.
The Secretariat is staffed by Ms Kitty Naw and Ms Jenn Yong.
